2. Drinking before going to bed
A glass of beer after work can sound like the perfect way to relax after a long day. However, drinking can also be a reason why you can’t sleep.
Sleep expert and neuroscientist Chelsea Rorshiv said alcohol is a problem for sleep because it breaks down into new chemicals by the liver.
He said, “When alcohol breaks down, it affects the sleep center of the brain and blocks deep sleep, making it more restless at night and causing frequent awakening.”
Also, alcohol can increase urination, so you may have to get up often to use the bathroom. So Rorshiv recommended drinking at least three or four hours before going to bed.
